Learning for Life is Shauna’s calling. Receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Seattle Pacific University in 1979, Shauna nursed until retiring to raise her children. She opened a Family Day Care, focused on early pre-school education. The goal was to introduce little ones to the joy of learning through exploration and discovery, in a stimulating and creative environment. Having the vision to educate children in such a way that they develop a love of learning prompted Shauna to begin the journey of homeschooling

Homeschooling provided the opportunity to develop curriculum and approaches tailored to the needs of each learner. Finding the optimal teaching method and materials to challenge the gifted and talented child, as well as providing the proper environment and multi-sensory techniques for the distracted learners allowed each child to reach their potential. Over the nine years of homeschooling, teaching at coops and in small group classes, it became clear that teaching was not only Shauna’s calling but also her passion.

At Jill Broder’s Tutoring Center, Shauna enjoys assisting students to develop effective study skills and provides organizational coaching. She is committed to exploring strategies to improve learning comprehension with each student, finding the best method or means to actively engage the student in their own learning process. Equipping and motivating students to ultimately accept ownership of the educational outcome and have confidence in their success is the vision Shauna strives toward with her older students. While specializing in English, Creative Writing, Literature, Reading Comprehension, and History, Shauna will also tutor math, science, and standardized test prep. Using multisensory teaching techniques, Shauna desires to find the unique strategy that unlocks every student’s potential and instills a passion for Learning for Life!
